Thumbs Up Thursday - Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie

This book defined my teen reading years. I discovered the delights of Mills & Boon (British version of Harlequin to our American readers) at about fourteen and this happened to be one of them - then released as part of the Temptation series.

What instantly struck me about this book is the flawed, very human characters. Zack and Lucy are instantly likeable, with realistic character traits that you just know would meld well together. Zack is an edgy, fly by the pants kinda guy who is slowly starting to come to grips with the idea of his own mortality. His self-depreciating humour is unbearably sexy and his scruffy cop image has forever influenced how I picture my perfect hero.

Lucy is logical, slightly shy and is always doing things for the right reasons. She's a homebody and offers everything Zack doesn't have. She sees her attraction to Zack as completely illogical. Lucy is so like many of us, quiet initially but fun once you get to know. Her many hair colour changes are hilarious as I'm sure many of us have been there!

Ms Crusie's writing style to my mind is completely unique. And I love that. There's no apologies for going against the 'rules' of writing. I saw things in this book that I've never seen anywhere else. The way the dialogue is handled is unusual but so very readable. It flows perfectly and is such a wonderful example of how you can use your own writing style to your advantage. Their dialogue is witty, quick and never fails to capture your attention.

With a supporting cast of a dirty yellow cat, a tough sister, a partner that has his life totally in order, a cop nicknamed 'junior' and a disproving neighbour, this story is full of fun. But don't worry, the romance is still top priority. While the sex scenes are heated, they verge on the more subtle side of sensual and the element of suspense running through it keeps the reader on the edge. The final scenes are dramatically romantic, in a homely, realistic way. The showdown between the hero and the villain is so perfectly normal yet is enough to get your heart pounding. In the story Lucy is shot at, has her car and bed blown up and her windows shot out yet if all seems perfectly  - to quote Lucy - logical. It never feels like anything is forced into the storyline.

And thank goodness, Zack is of course on hand to protect Lucy, whether she really needs it or not...

You can purchase Getting Rid of Bradley on Amazon.

Saturday Storyteller Interview: Kate Belle

Please welcome Kate to our blog today. She shares with us the her most romantic moments as well her turn ons!

What’s your name and where do you come from?
Hi All, I’m a debut Australian erotic fiction author. My name is Kate Belle and I live in Melbourne, Australia with my high-maintenance family of partner, 8yo daughter and some extremely neurotic pets. Thanks for having me here.

Tell us a bit about your latest release.
In February Random House’s new Random Romance digital romance line released two of my erotic e-novellas, Breaking the Rules and Bloom. These are the first in a series featuring the charismatic and handsome Ramon Mendez, a passionate lover of women who is changing women’s lives one passionate encounter at a time.

Of Spanish extraction, this hot-blooded man has more animal magnetism than most women can handle, and a body to match. Ramon loves women and has studied ancient sexual practices such as Tantra, Karma Sutra and Taoism. As a result he is a masterful, generous and wise lover who understands how to unlock the sexual potential in women’s bodies and minds.

Ramon seduces women who have hit a troubled romantic spot in their lives, taking them on a journey of sexual awakening. Once he has his object of desire in his arms he holds nothing back, driving his lovers into a state of ecstatic bliss.

But there is a mystery about him. He makes it clear to his lovers that he isn’t interested in relationships. He helps them sort out their problems so they can move on while he remains happily single. One can’t help but wonder why? And will there be a lover one day who finally captures Ramon’s elusive heart?

Where do you get your inspiration from?
During my twenties and thirties I was quite into New Age things and developed in interest in ancient sexual practices like Tantra and Taoism. These ideas introduced me to the immense power and range of female sexuality. I’ve also always loved erotica and wondered why the much of the published work I read never seemed to reflect the breadth of sexual pleasure women’s bodies were capable of experiencing. It seemed to me that the female sexual experience had to be justified in some way by making it socially and morally okay. I decided I wanted to write stories where women experienced sexual empowerment with a lover who really knew what he was doing. Ramon is essentially the perfect lover. Okay – he’s a fantasy – but he’s a lovely fantasy. He provides the women he loves with the freedom they need to discover who they really are sexually.

How do you decide how hot or not your book is going to be?
My characters (or perhaps it’s me?) can’t seem to help themselves. If they’re not coveting each other by page 4 and tearing each other’s clothes off by chapter 3, I know something’s wrong. I’m not squeamish when it comes to the act of sex. I want to get right in amongst it – right there with what the characters are thinking, feeling, doing – so my erotic fiction is pretty explicit. Actually, I think I might be better at the sex bits than I am at the romance bits. Wonder what that says about me?

What’s your biggest turn on?
Restraint. Physical or emotional, it doesn’t matter. There’s something about holding back, about feeling compelled but in some way unable or forbidden, and the tease and temptation that comes with that. It ramps up the imagination and the anticipation to the point of explosive. Unrequited love is one of the greatest passion lighters I know of.

What trait do you find the sexiest?
Confidence. There is something about a man who is sure of his place in the world, sure of his feelings and capabilities, that is endlessly sexy. It might also be called charisma, I think. Confident men exude it and I fall all over them like a silly, love-sick teenager.

If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
I’ve only just become a full time writer and I couldn’t bear to do anything else. Writing is like breathing to me, I have to do it to live. This has been my dream since I was in Primary School.
Last year I was working part time in the public service when the state government introduced massive job cuts. I nervously put my hand up. My voluntary redundancy package offer arrived the same day as the publishing contract for my novel, The Yearning, which is due out in Aust/NZ in April/May. Grinning like an idiot, I signed both contracts and sent them straight back. Thanks for asking, but I’m not going ANYWHERE.

What’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?
I wrote about this on my blog for Valentines Day. You can check it out here ( ). It’s a great story. Put it this way, it happened five years ago and my beloved is still getting mileage out of it.

Kate is a woman of many passions who juggles her pens with the rest of her life. She holds a tertiary qualification in chemistry, half a diploma in naturopathy and a diploma in psychological astrology. Kate believes in living a passionate life and has ridden a camel through the Australian desert, fraternised with hippies in Nimbin, had a near birth experience and lived on nothing but porridge and a carrot for 3 days.

Kate lives, writes and loves in Melbourne, juggling her strange, secret affairs with her male characters with her much loved partner and daughter, and a menagerie of neurotic pets.

Thirty-six-year-old Emma’s life looks as perfect as could be. She loves her solid, straight-laced husband Gary, who has given her three beautiful, if spoilt, children and a secure life. But something is missing. Gary hardly notices her anymore and she feels frumpy and invisible. Her friend, Lisa, talks her into joining a social boot camp class at the local gym. Emma immediately recognises their instructor as the gorgeous runner she sees each evening while walking her dog in the park. He introduces himself as Ramon Mendez. In spite of herself Emma is besotted.

Before long her mind is filled with guilty fantasies of him. One evening, when things at home have become too much to bear, she bumps into him alone in the park. An opportunity presents itself and no one need ever know. Ramon promises and delivers everything that’s missing from her marriage – passion, romance and excitement – but Emma must discover if they are the things she really wants.

Thumbs Up Thursday - Immortal Ever After by Lynsay Sands

I first discovered Lynsay Sands when I was looking for an audio book to listen to.  I tried her Scottish Medieval stories first and loved them. Then I tried her Regency novels.  I was a bit wary of trying out her Argeneau vampire series as I had never been much into paranormal. But with all the fuss around Twilight, Buffy, Vampire Diaries etc, I felt I was missing out. So I thought I would try out her first Novel (A Quick Bite). And that's when I fell head over heels in love with the Argeneau family and their friends.

In some ways this is a review of the entire series. Immortal Ever After is book 20 in the series (there are also two stories which are parts of anthologies). The Argeneau/ Rogue Hunter series is an almost science fiction take of the vampire trope. The vast majority of vampires are kind, normal individuals who just have to avoid sunlight and have to drink bagged blood. Having escaped the fall of Atlantis, thanks to nano technology which repair all their injuries, the Immortals, as they prefer to be called, live among the rest of humanity.  With modern laws in place which ban immortals from drinking "off the hoof" they live a relatively normal existence.

Unfortunately there are rogues who want to return to the old ways or who are so fed up of living that they choose to break laws so that they will be killed by the enforcers.

When Valerie Moyer is kidnapped by a fanged man who seems to think he's a vampire and is held in a basement cage along with 6 other women, she decides it's time to fight back. Once she has phoned the police, she collapses, waking up later in the house of Lucian Argeneau and his very pregnant wife. She is introduced to Anders who is immediately captivated by her.  As she begins to put together what is happening around her, she finds herself falling for sexy Anders and coming to terms with the fact that he, Lucian and Leigh (Lucian's wife) are all vampires.

Needless to say that after a bit of drama - I don't want to spoil it- they decide they are in love.

I have always liked the character of Anders and couldn't wait for him to have his own story.  Despite being terrified and completely knocked off her stride, Valerie is a gutsy heroine who doesn't just accept things as they are presented to her. Many of the earlier characters make an appearance and I love that Lucian and Leigh had a big part in the story. (I just wish I could see Lucian as looking like anything other than ucius Malfoy in Harry Potter.)

The entire series is inspired in my humble opinion and I can't wait until September when number 21 comes out.

New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands enthralls with Immortal Ever After, the latest entry in her sizzling paranormal vampire series featuring the wickedly alluring Argeneau family.
When Valerie is saved by the Argenau rescue team after being kidnapped by an immortal madman, Anders finds himself captivated by the strong, sultry woman. Engaged in a steamy affair, he promises to do everything in his power to protect Valerie while her abductor is still at large—and on the hunt. Sexy, fun, and full of passion, Lynsay Sands’s Immortal Ever After delivers a tantalizing adventure and a smoldering romance.

Hot Hump Day Excerpt: Nordic Prince by Heather Geoffries

Thanks to Heather for our Hot Hump Day excerpt today!

Steven looked on with curiosity.  “What are you…?”
With two long strides Erik was by his side, his lips closed over Steve’s, momentarily silencing any further words.
Erik probed Steve’s lips with his warm tongue.  Lust kindled earlier exploded into an inferno of complete hunger, which threatened to consume his impulse to resist.
Lightly touching Steve’s face, Erik gazed at him.  “I have wanted to do that all night.”
Steve’s will reasserted itself once more. He backed away a step.  Feeling very confused, he tried to articulate the war that raged within his heart.  “I can’t.  You’re …It isn’t…”
Like a sensual panther, Erik stalked toward Steve’s retreating form, backing him against a wall.  Growling with an animalistic lust, “I want you.”  Erik’s mouth descended on Steve’s neck, licking and nipping, causing a pure desire, which had him moaning once again.
Surrendering, Steve’s arms wrapped around Erik pulling him closer of their own accord.

When Doctor Steven Mills is dragged onto The Nordic Prince for fun in the sun by his sister, Amanda, he is certain he will be miserable. Until he meets Erik.
Erik is fun, exciting and just what the doctor ordered. Some drinks and dancing with him are more enticing to Steven than any date he’s gone on with women. Before long, the two escape the busy dance floor for the quiet—and private—spa where Eric works on Steven’s body with very skilled hands. Steven is overcome with an onslaught of new emotions and sensations and has the best sexual experience of his life.
Now Steven must wrestle with new feelings and desires and make a decision that could change his life forever.

Storyteller Saturday Interview: Victoria Black

Welcome to Victoria who talks favourite characters, sexiest traits and working on a prawn trawler! Make sure you check out her giveaway at the bottom to win a copy of Heavenly Revenge.

What’s your name and where do you come from?
Hi, my name is Victoria Black, and I'm from Australia.

Tell us a bit about your latest release.
Heavenly Revenge is an erotic romantic fantasy. It's set on another planet, in an alternate reality, with a couple of sweet old angels thrown into the mixture. However, the two  main combatants are very human. Their relationship is built around the delicious revenge the hero  exacts from his very pretty enemy.

If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
I used to think I wanted to be an actress. I tried for a while there, but couldn't remember my lines whenever the camera pointed at me. But I still have a very expressive voice. So, in addition to writing, which I love, I'm going to look into reading books for the Audio book market. I'd love it. I'd always have a script. No memory necessary.

Do you have a favourite character from your books? Why are they your favourite?
I think most female authors fall in love with their heroes, and I am no exception. King Andrejs from Heavenly Revenge is my favourite character. I love a forceful, alpha male hero like Andrejs. My heroine, Rose, (me, the way I'd like to be) has no trouble in wrapping her baffled, though valiantly arrogant, hero around her little finger. I love that soft, kind side to his nature that Rose brings out.

What trait do you find the sexiest?
I find a decisive man who knows his own mind very sexy. Perhaps because I'm the opposite – indecisive and emotional. Add in a large dollop of kindness, and you have my perfect man.

How do you decide how hot or not your book is going to be?
My plot idea, and the conflict between the couple, dictate how hot the book is going to be. If the book is based around sex, like it is in Heavenly Revenge, then it's easy – the story can be as hot as I want. The current short story I'm writing is aimed at a magazine, so I know it can't be too sexy. It has a sexy premise, involving a man and a naked lady in a bath, but I have to reign it in.

Is the stuff you write about from experience or mostly imagination?
Experience sometimes goes into parts of my hot scenes. Hey, I know what I like, okay? But everything else is all imagination.

What’s your idea of a perfect romantic evening?
My perfect romantic evening would be set on an exclusive Barrier Reef resort. After having snorkled all morning, relaxed at the bar around the swimming pool most of the afternoon, made love and snoozed during the rest of the afternoon, my romantic evening would involve a superb three course meal, with matching wines, in the resort's excellent  restaurant.

Tell us something that might surprise our readers.
I worked as a deck hand on a prawn trawler as one of the many jobs I've had in my life. I can't believe I used to pick up huge crabs and jellyfish and other revolting things and fling them over the side. My husband has to bait my hooks when we go fishing now, if we're using live bait.

Revenge can be cold and cruel.
When Rose dies before her time, two sweet, old angels send her on a mission to save another world. The angels worry she will be no match for the land's strong and handsome king. However Rose has learned a bitter lesson courtesy of her unfaithful and very ex boyfriend. She is strong too.
But when the lovely Rose meets King Andrejs, she has a sweet battle on her hands. He believes she is an enemy spy who has learned a secret that may affect the outcome of the war raging between his kingdom and the land to the north. It is against Andrejs' code to hurt a woman.
But, as both he and Rose discover, revenge doesn't have to be cold or cruel. Revenge can be hot and very pleasurable indeed.

Victoria Black lives in Queensland, Australia, with her husband, Darryl, and her very disobedient dog, Toby. When she’s not writing sexy romances, Victoria enjoys playing bridge and going to exercise classes (well, it’s the coffee with everyone afterward that she enjoys). Of an evening, she loves eating Darryl’s delicious dinner and drinking a matching wine. You’ll notice food usually makes an appearance in Victoria’s books!

"Do I meet with your approval, my pretty little enemy?" He lay down next to her and reached out for the sheet that wrapped around her, slowly drawing it away.

As he circled her nipple with his fingertip, he said softly, "You are my prisoner, Rose. It will be my pleasure to punish you for being such an efficient spy." He bent his head to her breast and swirled the blade of his tongue around her aureole, before gently flicking her now very erect nipple with the tip. "You will be mine to fuck any time and in any way I choose. Do you understand?"

Rose nodded slowly. Her pelvis ached at his erotic threats.

King Andrejs turned his attention to her other breast, drawing the pink peak into his mouth and licking. He bit down gently. A jolt of excitement shot to her lower belly. She couldn't prevent her gasp of pleasure, and she felt him smile. When he lifted his head, she saw hard, cold desire reflecting from his dark brown eyes.

She swallowed. His revenge would be no punishment at all.

Storyteller Saturday Interview: Raven McAllen

Today we welcome Raven who tells us about her latest Regency romance and her not-so-successful visit to the Great Wall of China!

What’s your name and where do you come from?
Hi all, I'm Raven McAllan, and I come from Scotland, the land of whisky, deep fried Mars Bar and the midge.

Tell us a bit about your latest release.
Well, A Shimmer Of Silk is book two in my Regency series The House On Silk Street. (Book one is Silver Silk Ties.) This is a series of stand-alone books, though they all tie together, and eventually you find out the secret that runs through them.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
That is one of life's mysteries. I truly have no idea. The latest one hit me in the shower, and it had nothing to do with getting clean, showers, or water.

How do you go about creating the perfect "Swoon" worthy man?
I'm a meanie. I give a very rough description and leave it up to the reader to choose what he looks like. I've done this ever since a reader told me she didn't see my hero as my detailed description and it put her off the book.

If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
Gluten free chocolate biscuit tester! On a serious note, back to being a guide at a stately home. I loved it.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
Listen to music over a glass of fine wine with D.H.

What’s your greatest weakness?
Chocolate and wine. No contest.

How do you decide how hot or not your book is going to be?
I don't, my characters decide for me. It can be darned annoying, but I've learned to accept it.

Do you get the stuff you write about from experience or mostly imagination?
Sadly imagination. Though I do think sometimes people look at me and raise an eyebrow.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
Think about it? Seriously, I love holidays, walking, reading, and tapestry.

Tell us something that might surprise our readers.
I lost my bottle on the top of the Great Wall of China and slid 25 foot down on my bum. The rest of the family had walked on, with the lunch, and I had to wait for them to come back. As I waited a man appeared with a besom, and started sweeping. It was where the wall is mud. Surreal.
Raven lives in Scotland, along with her husband and their two cats—their children having flown the nest—surrounded by beautiful scenery, which inspires a lot of the settings in her books.
She is used to sharing her life with the occasional deer, red squirrel, and lost tourist, to say nothing of the scourge of Scotland—the midge.
Her very understanding, and long-suffering DH, is used to his questions unanswered, the dust bunnies greeting him as he walks through the door, and rescuing burned offerings from the Aga. (And passing her a glass of wine as she types furiously.)

A Shimmer Of Silk is book two in The House on Silk Street series. (Book one is Silver Silk Ties) It's set in Regency Times, and revolves around what happens in a house where members of the aristocracy go to indulge their less than usual needs.

Deborah may not know the full truth of her childhood, but she knows she needs to find her soul.

During one of her performances at Silk Street, she attracts the attention of Oliver, Lord Craster. Known for his extreme tastes, he sensed a kindred soul in Deborah.

Persuading her that their needs mesh proves a challenge, even to a man of his experience. Will Oliver be the man she needs to unlock her secrets? Or will his dominance scare her too much to even try?
Are the nightmares simply too strong?

You can purchase A Shimmer of Silk from Evernight Publishing, ARe Amazon. Find Raven on her website, Facebook and her blog.

Thumb up Thursday - Exiles Bane by Nicole Margot Spencer

Today I'm sharing a book that I read quite a while ago, before I even started writing I think, and it stuck with me, so I'm giving it the thumbs up  this week ~ S

This story is set in the English Civil War when Cromwell is on the verge of victory. I tend to stick with medieval or Georgian romances so this was quite a step out of the ordinary for me and I've not seen many romances set in this era.

The story itself is dramatic and exciting and the main villain is very malicious. There are elements of the story that some may find disturbing but in all it didn't bother me. It chops and changes quite quickly, as they find themselves overcoming numerous obstacles and it is quite exhausting to keep up with but I still found myself gripped and rooting for the hero and heroine.

The hero, Duncan, was unusual to my mind, not your typical romantic lead male, but you could understand the heroines, Elena's, attraction to him and he was very dashing at times. Elena was bold and brave though not without her weaknesses which I enjoyed. I thought her portrayal was realistic as I loathe heroines who don't show an ounce of fear.

All in all, a thoroughly interesting and enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it to historical romance lovers.
The year is 1644, Lancashire, England, in the midst of the English Civil War between King and Parliament. Elena Roland, a resolute heiress who suffers precognitive visions, fights to defend her fortress against siege, and against her uncle’s attempt to eliminate her right to the land. She refutes the betrothal forced upon her, but her uncle strikes her down. Duncan Comrie, a cavalier captain and an exiled Scot, is ordered to imprison Elena, and an overwhelming, sensual need springs up between them. All too soon, power-hungry Edward Gorgon arrives to collect his bride.

A unique first person perspective, depth of character, and realism drive this novel of corrupted power, loyalty, lust, ancient curses, love, deceit, and personal torment.

Hot Hump Day Excerpt: Sand, Sin and Tequila by Bebe Balocca

Thanks to Bebe Balocca for our Hump day excerpt from Sand, Sin and Tequila. Read on and be prepared to fan yourself down!

“You had your nips pierced, didn’t you?” Arden gasped. “That’s so hot. But, oh my God, did it hurt? I think it’s so sexy, but I’m scared to do it. Do you love it?”

Jess giggled. “Yeah, I do. It hurt like hell when they did it, especially since I was all alone, but I love having my nipples, you know, played with during sex, so I thought I’d like it. It feels incredible, like there’s always somebody tugging on them just a little bit. They just stay hard all the time. It’s awesome.” She tilted her head and asked, “Wanna see?”

“Um,” Arden stole a glance at Ram, who gestured with his hand for her to continue. “Yeah, I totally wanna see,” she said in a rush. “If you don’t mind.”

Jess whipped off her bikini top and tossed it aside. Each of her breasts was crowned with a gleaming silver hoop. The puckered pink tips rose from her golden skin—no bikini line in sight. Clearly Jess had been sunbathing topless in Belize, and possibly right on this very beach. How had Arden failed to see her? Apparently they’d missed out on more than just Hedwig, Magda and Brunhilde when they’d visited Xcaret and Tulum. Arden immediately wanted to explore those rings with her mouth. She imagined flicking her tongue over them, poking its tip through them and tugging ever so slightly, and then sucking on those little peaks…

“You should totally do it,” Jess nodded. She seemed completely oblivious to Arden’s lustful imaginings. “That is, if your nipples are the right shape for it.” Jess shrugged. “They probably are. You can just ask at the piercing parlor.” She leaned back on the reclined surface and idly flicked her nipple rings up and down as she spoke. “They can tell just by looking.”

Arden licked her lips. “What are my nips supposed to look like?” she inquired casually. “You know, in case I wanted to get it done once we get home.” Her own nipples contracted nervously at the thought of sharp metal poking through them, but the vision of Jess’s bosom adorned with pierced jewelry was wildly exciting. “Do they have to be a certain size?”

Jess shrugged. Her tanned breasts moved enticingly over her chest with the simple gesture. “I can check yours out if you want me to and see if it would work,” she offered. “I shopped around at a few piercing parlors before I got mine done and talked to the people there about it quite a bit. I’m not, like, an expert but I suppose I know a good bit about the whole process.”

Ram’s fingertips trace down a path down Arden’s spine. She could feel his excitement prickling into her back like static electricity gone wild.

“Uh, sure, that’s a good idea,” Arden said, “since you know what to look for and all.”
She started to reach behind her back and untie her bikini.
“Let me help,” Jess insisted. She placed her arms around Arden and untied the string bikini’s bow in the middle of her back. A sheen of sweat gathered on Arden’s forehead as she endured the excruciatingly irresistible proximity of Jess’s body to her own. Her bare breasts, with those sweet little silver rings, were just inches from Arden’s mouth. Jess’s deft fingers found the bikini’s knots behind Arden’s neck and between her shoulder blades. She lifted Arden’s thick hair free of the bikini straps and slipped away her top.

“There,” Jess said brightly. “Oooh, nice rack! I’d love to have big boobs like yours.” Arden’s heart raced when Jess bent down to study her nipples up close. “Hmmm,” Jess mused thoughtfully. “Your nips seem kind of small, but at least they’re not inverted or flat.” She raised her hand to Arden’s breast and then paused. “Mind if I touch?” she asked politely. “I don’t want to invade your space or anything.” Arden nodded, her head jerking awkwardly. She didn’t trust herself to speak in anything resembling a normal voice.

Jess tilted Arden’s erect nipple to one side, then the other. Arden bit her lip to keep from groaning with pleasure. Jess’s small fingers pinched her skin lightly, plucking the nipple away from her breast and then releasing it to fall back toward her body. “Yeah, I think it’ll work,” Jess concluded. Her hand fell away from Arden’s breast. She looked up at Arden with shining eyes. “You could get it pierced, no problem.”

“B-b-both of them?” Arden stuttered. Ram slid his hand around her waist and pressed the bulge of his cock against the curve of her ass.

“Well, let’s see,” Jess said. She rubbed her fingertips over the nub of Arden’s other breast. Arden’s nipple contracted immediately. “It’s pretty hard right now, isn’t it?” Jess noted. “Is it like that all the time, or just when you’re cold?” She took it between her fingers and rolled it. “Or turned on,” she added with a laugh. “My nips get hard as rocks when I’m turned on.” Arden swallowed with effort. Her body was aflame with impatient excitement, and she knew that Ram must be in utter torment. “This one’s good, too, Arden.” Jess abraded Arden’s nipple lightly with her fingertips as she continued. “You know what some of the piercing parlors do?” Jess asked. Arden shook her head dazedly. “Some of them use ice to numb your nips before they pierce them. It makes them really stiff, so the needle will go right through and you’ll barely feel it.” Arden licked her lips. Her heartbeat raced. “Wanna try it?” Jess proposed. “Not the piercing, but the ice part? Just to see what happens?”

“Okay,” Arden whispered.

Arden and Ramsay are enjoying the decadent flavors of the Caribbean – and each other – but there’s one exotic spice that they crave. They’d hoped that this trip to a posh resort would be the perfect opportunity to find the playmate of their fantasies, but it’s the last day of their stay and there’s no third to be found.

Jess is single, uninhibited and lovely, and more than willing to serve as the cherry on top of Arden and Ram’s tropical dessert.  She brandishes a bottle of tequila and the promise of a night of firsts that the Tennessee couple will never forget.

With the ocean waves as their soundtrack and a tented beach bed as their dining room table, Ramsay, Arden and Jess take part in a sweet feast for the senses. It’s too bad that this three-course meal will only be served for one night… or will it?

Storyteller Saturday Interview: Elizabeth Dunk

Nicola Murphy aka Elizabeth Dunk is joining us today to talk about inspiration and her latest book. If you missed her excerpt earlier this week, don't panic, Nicole is also offering a copy of Arranged to Love to one lucky winner, along with some back copies of other titles! Enter below.

What’s your name and where do you come from?
Elizabeth Dunk is the psuedonym I use for contemporary romance. My real name is Nicole Murphy, which is the name I use for science fiction/fantasy and romance. As Nicole Murphy, I’ve had three novels a couple dozen short stories published. Elizabeth is playing catch-up to that, with one novel and two short stories out. I live in Queanbeyan, a town just the other side of the border from Canberra, the capital of Australia.

Tell us a bit about your latest release.
Arranged to Love is the debut novel from Elizabeth Dunk. It’s the story of Madhuri ‘Maddie’ Singh, an Indian/Australian who loves her job as a journalist and is also committed to her culture, particularly the idea of making an arranged marriage. There’s only been one man who’s tempted her from that plan and wouldn’t you know it – the moment her parents find her a husband, Jack Faulkner returns to her life. And so things begin to unravel for both Maddie and Jack and they need to reassess what they really want their lives to be.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
It comes from lots of different places and ideas banging together. For example, I worked as a journalist for several years so I’m aware of how perfect that environment is for romantic entanglements, but I wasn’t able to pull together the perfect story. Then I met a girl who had made an arranged marriage and she was open about what it involved in the modern age. That banged with the journalism and created ‘Arranged to Love’.

What’s your biggest turn on?
Conversation. Smart, sassy, intelligent, sexy conversation. Talk to me about your views on the world, listen to mine, slowly get more intimate sharing details of yourself, segue that into talking about how sexy the other is, and then into a little talking dirty and I’ll be putty in your hands.

If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?
Actually, I’m currently working in it. My day job is as a conference organiser. It’s something I’ve only recently got into – June last year- but I’ve been organising events as a hobby for a number of years and I really enjoy it. It’s never boring, there’s always something to do,  you meet fascinating people and that moment when the conference is happening and you see the delegates smiling faces and know you helped make that happen is magic.

What trait do you find the sexiest?
Intelligence, without ego or arrogance. An intelligence that is interested in everything about the world around them – that wants to discover, explore, discuss, and take on new information and learning. That’s sexy as hell.

How do you decide how hot or not your book is going to be?
There’s lots of factors involved. For starters – what do I want to write? Erotica, explicit sex within a romance, or something sweet? Then the characters get involved – some end up much more into sex than I planned, others don’t. Finally, the plot impacts. If I have a plot around the romance and it’s not calling for any explicit sex scenes, then I won’t write them. I think writing sex for the sake of writing sex comes across as fake and wrong and it can ruin a story.

Is there any erotic scenarios you wouldn’t write about?
Right now I wouldn’t write full on BDSM, but that’s only because I don’t feel I understand the nuances of the relationship well enough – I certainly enjoy reading it. Research is required before I get into that. Otherwise, I think that everyone has a right to their sexuality and that it’s important to be able to find yourself somewhere in a book, so I’m willing to take anything on.

Is the stuff you write about from experience or mostly imagination?
Well obviously, the basics and the emotional attachment and reaction of love and sex comes from my own life. But when it comes to the down and dirty and sometimes kinky stuff, it’s imagination – although does reading erotica count as experience? Cause in that case…

Tell us something that might surprise our readers.
For all that I write about confident women who don’t care about societal mores but chase their own sexual pleasure to the benefit of both they and their partner/s, I’m crippled with insecurity. My husband is lucky he caught me at a moment when I was feeling pretty good about myself, otherwise I could well still be single and quite inexperienced

Elizabeth Dunk is the contemporary romance writing alter-ego of Nicole Murphy, who cut her teeth writing science fiction and fantasy. A long-time romance fan, Nicole couldn’t resist attempting to sit fair and square in the modern world and bring two fabulous characters together and thus Elizabeth was born. As Nicole, she has dozens of short stories in print and published an urban fantasy trilogy, The Dream of Asarlai. As Elizabeth, she’s published a couple of short stories. This is the first novel length work under the new name and there are plans for many more. Find out more about Elizabeth/Nicole at
