She slid from the bed. The floor warmed her bare feet as she reclaimed her tunic and slipped it on for decency’s sake. From the sound of it Soren was in the shower. Ignoring the twinge of vertigo that walking across an image of open space created, she passed through the faint circle of stars marking the doorway then held her breath. Soren stood naked in the curved alcove of the shower, water streaming down the ripple of muscles in his back, his blond hair now honey dark in the wet. She walked toward him, hoping he wouldn’t turn and see her, wanting to surprise him. She shrugged her tunic off as she drew closer and stepped into the water, wrapping her arms around his waist.
“Good morning,” he greeted her, throwing her a smile over his shoulder.
“You knew I was there?”
Again, that throaty chuckle. It reverberated through her as she pressed her body into his.
Oh, that feels so good.
“I heard you.” He turned and placed a wet kiss on her lips before tugging her further into the shower. Warm water cascaded over her face and she threw her head back, eyes closed as she let it play over her skin. That felt good too, but not as good as Soren. He turned her until she faced away from him then ran his hands over her body, soaping her down, his muscular torso hard against her. She moaned softly and leaned her head on his shoulder as he washed her in long strokes, leaving no part of her skin untouched. Need pulsed through her, and her legs trembled as he worked his way around her breasts, across her belly, over her groin and down the inner edge of her thighs. “Soren…”
“My turn,” she insisted, a touch breathlessly.
Soren stopped and kissed her neck. “Whatever you wish, my love.”
They reversed their positions and Marie pressed herself into him. He passed her the sliver of cleanser he had used, and she ran her soaped fingers down his torso in long, circular sweeps until she reached his abdomen. Stroking her way over his body stoked the ache inside her. Excitement shivered down her spine. She moved lower, feeling her way downward then jerked her hands away as disappointment smacked her in the chest. “Oh…”
Soren spun and snared her in a tight embrace. “What’s wrong?”
“You don’t seem to be finding this as thrilling an experience as I am,” she whispered.
It was meant to be a romantic getaway for Marie and the love of her life Jaisen; a chance for him to get to know her better after months of her denying him more than a few stolen kisses. Instead, Marie finds herself dumped and alone on Venus Ascendant with no credit for a transmat and the next starship home not due for another hour.
