Saturday Storyteller Interview: Amelia James

Please welcome our author of the month, Amelia. She's talking about turn ons and getting her kink on! ;)
What’s your name and where do you come from?
I am Amelia James, and I come from a repressed and conservative background. I grew up in a fundamental family and community. My mom didn't allow me to listen to rock music, and she took my romance novels away from me. But since I've moved away from home, I've learned to think for myself and let out my inner bad girl.
Tell us a bit about your latest release.
My latest release is the omnibus edition of my erotic ménage romance series, The Twisted Mosaic. It includes all three books, Her Twisted Pleasures, Their Twisted Love, His Twisted Choice, and three bonus stories.
How do you go about creating the perfect "Swoon" worthy man?
All of my heroes have been inspired by real-life men or fictional characters, but my favourite bad boy, Alex Sheridan from The Twisted Mosaic, was inspired by a villain. I took his conflicted nature and played 'What if?' That led me to his particular perversions. He's not perfect at all, and that's why he's so appealing.
What’s your biggest turn on?
Men with long hair. Both Jack and Will have long hair. I love getting tangled in it.
What’s your greatest weakness?
Men with long hair. ;) Real potato chips and full-fat dip. Melted cheese. Bacon. Four-inch heels. I have no willpower.
How do you decide how hot or not your book is going to be?
It depends how kinky my characters are. Talia, Alex, and Will have twisted perversions, so their books are highly erotic. All my books are hot. The romance novel I'm currently writing will include an MFM scene because my heroine told me she wanted one. I write what my characters tell me.
Is the stuff you write about from experience or mostly imagination?
I plead the 5th. Um… a little bit of both. I've always had an active imagination. My 3rd grade teacher wrote 'tends to daydream' on my report card. I missed out on a lot of sexual experiences, but I've made up for many of them.
What do you do to get in the mood for writing love scenes? Candles, music etc?
I get up at 5am to write, so if I'm working on a love scene, I'll stay in bed for a few minutes and daydream. Sometimes I listen to a dirty song or two.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
Herding my 3-year-old. She's at the age where she needs (demands!) constant entertainment.
Tell us something that might surprise our readers.

My husband used to be a youth pastor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All three Twisted Mosaic books in one volume, plus a deleted scene, and three exclusive bonus stories!
Dirty little secrets.
Talia indulges her sexual pleasures, turning her life into a twisted mess. Sleeping with Alex is dangerous and reckless, and she craves that excitement. Loving Will is comforting and safe, and she needs that stability. Why can’t she get everything she wants from one man?
All the wrong reasons.
Alex has everything he wants. He loves the power that comes with his job, and fooling around with his boss provides the illicit kink he needs. He's in charge and trusts no one.
When Alex's case forces them back together, Talia discovers she still craves both her former lovers. Can only one love her enough to satisfy her twisted desires and provide the stability she needs?
Love takes an unexpected twist.
Will loves Talia, and he's willing to give up everything to be with her. Their future hinges on her answer to one simple question. But when he leaves his life behind to pursue her, he's confronted with choices he didn't expect.
No more secrets. No more lies. Old love? New love? Or do they have a third option?
Hot Hump Day Excerpt: Ultimate Night's Delights by Kelli Wilkins
Thanks to Kelli for this hot and naughty excerpt. Warning: Don't read in public! :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Annabelle pulled on the leg restraints as Vincent pumped into her. The orgasm she so desperately craved was out of reach.

“Good girl, hold on. I’m close.”

Annabelle saw that Julian and Sabrina had changed positions. Now Julian knelt behind Sabrina on all fours, screwing her fast. Sabrina’s large breasts jiggled as he fucked her.

“Yes!” Vincent tensed and grunted as he came. She bucked her hips up, hoping that Vincent’s orgasm would make her come, as well. He quivered inside her, then sighed and lay still.

“Please…please…keep going,” she begged, writhing on the bed. If only Lobo would release her hands, she could touch herself and relieve her wicked pain.

“You want more cock?” he asked as he pulled out.

“Yes, the cream makes me so hot, I need it.”

“Lobo, ball her until I return,” Vincent ordered, as he stood.

She was going to be screwed by Lobo? Her body throbbed at the thought. Lobo released her hands and stripped out of his black breeches. Annabelle reached up and stroked his limp cock with one hand, while squeezing his hairy balls with the other. Lobo gasped, and his penis grew from a thin noodle to a stiff shaft nearly as long as her arm.

Annabelle pulled him to her, eager to taste his meat. Lobo bent forward and she wrapped her lips around the head of his cock. He winked at her as she sucked him.

After a minute, she released him, and Lobo walked to the foot of the bed. He mounted her, then shoved himself inside, filling her to the core. She curled her arms around his wide shoulders as he fucked her hard. Lono and Lobo never spoke, but they obeyed orders without question—and it was always fun!

Julian and Annabelle are back for the final ball!
The Marquis of Demby’s Midsummer and Midwinter Balls changed Julian and Annabelle forever. Freed from their inhibitions, they now help other shy couples explore their sexual urges and hidden desires.

But life on Vincent and Sabrina’s estate is anything but tranquil. The notorious Duke of Blackwell has discovered the secret about the naughty balls and is out to destroy the marquis.

Vincent refuses to deny the rumors about the “anything goes” parties he hosts, and turns to his friends for assistance. Together, they devise a plan to defeat the Black Duke…and still find time for a few erotic games.

Saturday Storyteller Interview: Kelli Wilkins

Please welcome Kelli to our blog today! She's telling us all about her latest release and what inspires her.

~~~~~~~Interview~~~~~~~
What’s your name and where do you come from?
Hi everyone! My name is Kelli Wilkins and I’m an author with Amber Quill Press and Medallion Press. I currently live in New Jersey and was raised in rural upstate New York. I’ve been writing professionally since 2000. My romances range from mildly sensual to super-hot sizzling, and cover nearly every genre: contemporary, gay, historical/fantasy, and paranormal.
Tell us a bit about your latest release.
My 15th erotic romance from Amber Quill Press is titled Ultimate Night’s Delights. It’s the third and final novella in a series that began with A Midsummer Night’s Delights and continued with A Midwinter Night’s Delights. Although all three stories are connected, they each stand alone as individual reads. I think fans of the first two novellas will find this one to be a satisfying conclusion to the series.
Ultimate Night’s Delights
Julian and Annabelle are back for the final ball!
The Marquis of Demby’s Midsummer and Midwinter Balls changed Julian and Annabelle forever. Freed from their inhibitions, they now help other shy couples explore their sexual urges and hidden desires.
But life on Vincent and Sabrina’s estate is anything but tranquil. The notorious Duke of Blackwell has discovered the secret about the naughty balls and is out to destroy the marquis.
Vincent refuses to deny the rumors about the “anything goes” parties he hosts, and turns to his friends for assistance. Together, they devise a plan to defeat the Black Duke…and still find time for a few erotic games.
You can read excerpts, summaries, and reviews of A Midsummer Night’s Delights and A Midwinter Night’s Delights on each book’s page on my site: www.KelliWilkins.com
B&N:
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Each book comes to me in a different form. Sometimes I’ll have an entire story “jump” into my head, and I’ll know everything that happens to the characters. (That happened with A Perfect Match, A Most Unusual Princess, Trust with Hearts, and The Viking’s Witch.)
Other times, I’ll get bits and pieces of the story and parts of the characters. Once in a while, I’ll have a character come first, and once I get to “know” and develop the character, I’ll find out the story. Once I know the story, the other pieces fall into place, like a puzzle. (That happened with
Four Days with Jack, Beauty & the Bigfoot, Killer in Wolf’s Clothing, and Confessions of a Vampire’s Lover.)
Before I start a book, I think about the story. I need to know who the characters are and what’s going to happen to them. After that, I outline the scenes and start writing. As I write, I allow myself some leeway to explore things I hadn’t considered in my outline/list. I might add entire scenes or write scenes that are later omitted. Writing a book is always an adventure, and I never know where the characters or stories will take me.
I also keep a folder of ideas, and if I’m ever at a loss for my next project, I read through the folder and see what story/plot/idea appeals to me to write next.
Do you have a favourite character from your books? Why are they your favourite?
I love all my books and all of my characters – so I don’t really have an absolute favourite. However, when I wrote the fantasy novella A Most Unusual Princess, I liked Dalton and Elara so much that I wrote a full-length sequel about them, Dalton’s Temptation. Then, while writing Dalton’s Temptation, I absolutely fell in love with Prince Allan, and knew he had to have his own book – so I wrote The Pauper Prince. (This trilogy is my husband’s favourite.)
I’m proud of all my books, and I think each book and set of characters is my “favourite at the moment” while I’m working on it. They were all a lot of fun to write, and I enjoyed following the characters through their adventures. I think readers do, too!
How do you decide how hot or not your book is going to be?
I don’t! I’m not really “in charge” of that, and I don’t decide “I’ll write a scorching book.” I let the characters in each story determine the sexual content. Every story is different, and so are the sexual lives of the characters. They all have a sexual history (whether curious, shy, very open, or unsure) that comes into play during the course of the book.
Writing in different romance genres also influences the sexual content. In The Viking’s Witch, (a historical) Odaria is innocent about things, yet, is so hopelessly in love with Rothgar, she insists that he’s “the one” for her. David in Four Days with Jack (a gay contemporary) is a modern, though sexually unsure man who’s interested in experimenting. Sherrie (from Trust with Hearts) had her heart broken, so she’s not going to jump into a relationship with just anyone. In Ultimate Night’s Delights none of the characters are shy, and anything goes! Writing for the different characters and their individual situations helps keep things interesting and fresh from book to book.
Are there any erotic scenarios you wouldn’t write about?
I’ve never been interested in writing about bodily functions that some people find erotic, or people dressing up like giant babies. Anything else is pretty much up for grabs, depending on the plot, characters, and heat level of the story. Stories I’ve written have included same-sex, ménage, groups, and light BDSM, so I’m pretty open-minded to a lot of different scenarios. I haven’t done anything with costumes or role-play yet, but maybe that will be next!
Is the stuff you write about from experience or mostly imagination?
All writing has some basis in real-world experience – but not in the ways most people think. I might get an idea for a story (let’s say, man falls in love with the neighbor, or he has to rescue his love from a fiend) from reading an article, a dream, seeing a movie, or talking to someone, but then as a writer, I use my imagination to take that “regular idea” and make it my own, with my characters, my plot, and my writing style.
The same works for creating characters. I’ve taken bits and pieces from real people and used some of their elements for my characters, but no one character is 100% anyone I know. I’m also a “people watcher” so I pick up character traits from observing people and how they act.
But because I write romances, people think that the love scenes are “confessionals” or are inspired by what I do in my personal life. Not so! Let’s use the F word here – it’s Fiction.
Fiction is made up, no matter what inspires it. It’s the characters in my stories are doing these things, not me.
And believe it or not, people have asked me if I “act out” the love scenes at home. I tell them that I don’t act out what happens in my horror stories, so why would I act out my romances? I let them know that I have a very vivid imagination and I can create anything—whether it’s a vampire story, a romance, or even a vampire romance!
What do you do when you’re not writing?
When I take a break from writing I usually hang out with friends and family, go for walks, exercise, or read. (As a rule, I don’t read when I’m writing - and I don’t write when I’m reading.) Other than that, I like to travel, go to flea markets, and garden.
Tell us something that might surprise our readers.
Here’s something surprising in this day and age: I write everything in longhand. When I get an idea for a story, I write my outline, let the ideas for the characters and plot marinate in my head for a while, and then go back and start writing on paper. After the first draft is complete, I start typing up the book. I add details and edit out parts I’m not crazy about as I type, so by the time I have a typed version it’s almost like a second draft.
It was fun sharing my thoughts with readers. Here’s a list of my romances - they all vary in heat level and genre. You can read excerpts, reviews, and summaries of all of them on my site: www.KelliWilkins.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt
She looked at him and he imagined he could see tension seeping from her. As though his words reassured. He clawed through his mind for other such words.

“It would never occur to me,” he said, “that you would ever intentionally cause distress by word or action.”

“I certainly would never wish to cause you any distress, Connor.” And then she smiled, a small, tentative smile as though unsure of his reaction.

His chest tightened, the pain jagged yet not wholly unpleasant. Strange. And as he focused on the slight tremble of her lower lip, raw protectiveness seared through him, a primitive urge to pull her close and claim her as his own to the world.

Unnerved by the power of the image, the suddenness of its overwhelming demand, his first reaction was to recoil. But instead he remained rooted to the spot, unable to tear his gaze from her, unable to sever the tenuous connection that shimmered, beyond mortal sight, in the air between them.

The fanciful notion shattered the moment of paralysis, but not the sense of protectiveness that, if anything, gathered momentum by the second. And although a distant sliver of sanity urged caution, he held out his hand.

With only a moment’s hesitation Aila placed her hand in his, and he curled his fingers around her. Such a small gesture. Yet somehow, incomprehensibly, significant.

He picked up her abandoned circlet and they began the long walk back to Ce-eviot.
